Court Hears Case Allegedly Involving the Largest Amount of Smuggled Grain

» The Intermediate People's Court of Guangzhou began to hear a case on June 3 that allegedly involves the largest amount of smuggled grain since the founding of the PRC.
» Three Guangzhou-based companies smuggled 8,600 tons of grain, claiming that it was sanitary ware and furniture, according to the charges of the public prosecutor.
» The decrease of grain production in traditional exporting countries such as Thailand and Vietnam in 2008 fueled the international inflation of food prices. But China's food prices were stabilized due to tough control measures. The disparity encourages the grain smuggling.
