Finance Ministry Not Involved in Green Dam Purchase

» China's Ministry of Finance said it did not participate in the purchase of Green Dam -Youth Escort, and that MIIT alone developed and bought the controversial web-filtering software that will be shipped with all computers sold in China starting July 1.
» The finance ministry made the statement on June 24 in a reply to Liu Xiaoyuan, a Beijing-based lawyer who, on June 12, requested that the ministry disclose information about the procurement of the software.
» The ministry's disavowal conflicts with an MIIT circular dated May 19 stating that the finance ministry and the Civilization Office of the Central Communist Party Committee also participated in the purchase.
