Foreign Trade Groups Against Green Dam

» Twenty-two foreign trade groups asked the
Chinese government to reconsider its directive for all PCs in China to be
shipped with web-filtering software Green Dam – Youth Escort, in a letter to
Chinese Premier Wen Jiabao on June 26.
» The letter was signed by many
prominent business associations, including the U.S. Chamber of Commerce, the
European-American Business Council and other associations from the U.S., Europe,
Japan and Canada.
» U.S. Trade Representative Ron Kirk and Commerce Secretary
Gary Locke sent joint letters to China's Ministry of Industry and Information
Technology and Ministry of Commerce on June 24, saying Green Dam could run
counter to the country's obligations under the World Trade
Organization.
