» China's foreign debt stood at US$ 336.7 billion at the end of March, down 10.1 percent from the end of 2008, the State Administration of Foreign Exchange said on its website on July 1.
» Short-term foreign debt, an index of capital used to speculate on the yuan's appreciation, fell by 17.7 percent to US$173.5 billion over the end of 2008. Short-term debt accounted for 51.5 percent of total foreign debt, the statement added.
» Medium to long-term debt stood at US$163.3 billion at the end of March, down 0.4 percent.
» An analyst from the central bank attributed the decline to the shrink of trade finance in the first quarter.
