» Just weeks after his government's defeat of the Liberation Tigers of Tamil Eelam (LTTE) after thirty years of civil war, Sri Lanka's minister of foreign affairs, Rohitha Bogollagama, visited Beijing on July 2.
» He delivered a talk on post-conflict Sri Lanka at the China Institute of International Studies, and there, discussed his hopes for China's role in the future of his country.
» Bogollagama said this victory was aided by the material support Sri Lanka received from China, including the sale of weapons and Chinese investment in infrastructure development projects.
» To promote development, the Sri Lankan government has established special incentives for foreign investors.  On Wednesday, the government also announced the creation of a special 150 acre economic zone open only to Chinese investment.
