» A trial is under way for Chen Jie, former general manager of Shanghai Soap Co. Ltd accused of accepting 18.14 million yuan in bribes. 17.25 million yuan of the money is connected with the case of Fan Xian, former vice president of Shanghai Huayi (Group) Company.
» The case is centered around illegal actions taken by Chen to transform a state-owned real estate company, Shanghai Senling Real Estate Development Co. Ltd, into a privately owned firm under his control.
» Public prosecutors allege that Chen, in collaboration with Fan and the then party secretary of Shanghai Soap Co., Xu Lili, illicitly acquired ownership of several estates developed by Shanghai Senling.
