Tencent Holdings, a leading provider of Internet and mobile and telecom value-added services in China, yesterday said that its revenue last year hit 12.44 billion yuan, up 73.9 percent, and the net profit was 5.16 billion yuan, increasing by 85.2 percent year on year, Xinhua reported.
The annual report, released yesterday, showed that Tencent’s revenue totaled 3.69 billion yuan in the fourth quarter of 2009, up 75.9 percent year on year; the net profit increased by 73.5 percent to 1.5 billion yuan.
Analysts said Tencent’s good performance should be attributed to its diversity in businesses, of which, online game services and community value-added services yielded high return.
The company also estimated that in the first quarter of 2010, Internet value-added services especially online game services would see a continuous increase as the students, its main customers, were on their winter holidays in Jan. and Feb.
