42 Killed, 53 Injured in China Air Crash

42 passengers were confirmed dead and other 54 injured with seven in serious condition after a plane carrying 91 passengers and five crew crashed in a grassy area near the Lindu airport on the outskirt of Yuchuan, a city in northeast China’s Heilongjiang Province.

The jet broke into two parts as it was approaching a foggy runway and burst into flames at 21:35 p.m. Tuesday. Media reported that some passengers were thrown from the cabin before the broken plane hit the ground.

According to the city’s governor Wang Aiwen, 42 passengers were confirmed dead and some 54 passengers were injured. Of them, seven were seriously injured as of 2:00 a.m. August 25.

Heilongjiang provincial civil aviation authorities said the Embaraer E-190 jet, with the tail number VD8387, belongs to regional Henan Airlines and had departed from Haerbin, capital of Heilongjiang Province.
