The annual World Economic Forum shinding has entered the second day in Davos, with the 10th anniversary of China’s entry into the World Trade Organization (WTO) and the debt crisi in the euro zone high on the agenda.
The following are some quotable quotes from Davos on the day, quoted by Xinhuanet:
"Who won? Did China win and rest of the world lose? Did China lose and rest of the world win? The reality is China won and the rest of the world won...Of course China still has a trade surplus, overall this is a macro-economic issue, but as China rebalances its economic system, there is more to come in China's imports and its domestic market growth." -- WTO Director-General Pascal Lamy.
"Did China abide by its commitments? Overall, yes. Like any other WTO member, overall there are areas where there may be a bit of hesitation, a bit of doubt. Nobody has a totally clean nose in WTO, but what we have is system that allows these imperfections, to be addressed through our implementation machinery." -- Lamy
"Our confidence in the Doha Round needs to be practical too. We should all work on this, do not point fingers at each other, we need to cooperate. China will do its utmost." -- Chinese Minister of Commerce Chen Deming
"Whether it be (German) Chancellor (Angela) Merkel or myself, never will we turn our backs on the euro. Never will we abandon the euro." -- French President Nicolas Sarkozy
"The euro spells Europe. The euro is Europe and Europe has spelled 60 years
of peace on our continent, therefore we will never let the euro go or be
destroyed." -- Sarkozy
