Talk: Simon Cockerell on Tourism in North Korea
01-10 14:53 Caijing![]() |
Tonight, British film maker and tour operator Simon Cockerell shares a decade’s experience in one of the world’s most retrograde countries. Less than a month after the death of ‘dear leader’ Kim Jong-il, Cockerell, the general manager of Beijing-based Koryo Tours will speak about life and tourism in the DPRK.
His unique access has paved the way for his three award-winning documentary films, including A State of Mind, which portrays the lives of Pyongyang dwellers; and Crossing the Line, the story of James Joseph Dresnok an American soldier who defected to North Korea in 1961 and remains there to this day. Following the screening of these films at The Apartment on Sunday, Simon will be giving a talk in person tonight at The Radisson Plaza Xing Guo Hotel, as part of the Royal Asiatic Society’s cultural talks series, starting at 7pm. Not to be missed.
Tickets 30RMB/RAS members, 80RMB/non-members. Those unable to make the
donation but wishing to attend may contact RAS in advance for an exemption. RSVP
essential. Contact bookings@royalasiaticsociety.org.cn.
